Hi Stephen, Thank you for reaching out to this forum. I'm Utkarsh and as a fellow Microsoft user, I'm here and ready to help you today. I am a user like you, this is a user forum and not Microsoft directly. For adding AOL account to Outlook, please follow the steps below: 1. Open Outlook. 2. Select File in the Outlook top menu. 3. In the left pane, select Info then Add Account. 4. Enter your AOL email address and then click Connect. 5. Enter your AOL email account password and then click Connect. 6. Click Done. 7. Your AOL email account is now in Outlook and will download messages in your account. For manual step: 1. Manual Setup (if needed): If Outlook attempts to set up your AOL email you may need to choose the "Manual setup or additional server types" option and then select "POP or IMAP" to manually configure the AOL email settings. 2. AOL Email Settings: Use the following AOL email settings for manual configuration: a. Incoming Mail Server (IMAP): imap.aol.com b. Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.aol.com c. Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.aol.com d. Username: Your AOL email address e. Password: Your AOL email password 3. Complete Setup: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process. If you've entered your AOL email and password correctly but are still unable to connect, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try: Enable Less Secure Apps: AOL may require you to enable access for less secure apps to connect with Outlook. Go to your AOL account security settings and enable the option for "Allow apps that use less secure sign-in". Two-Step Verification: If you have two-step verification enabled for your AOL account, you may need to generate an app-specific password. Go to the AOL account security settings and generate a unique password specifically for Outlook. I am NOT a Microsoft Agent/Employee. I hope this is helpful! Best Regards, Utkarsh

My AOL is, or was, set up on Outlook till this afternoon and suddenly that need me to verify my password. I have done that and then realized when I was setting my AOL up the first time I ran into the same problem of spending a day trying to connect. Finally, someone at Microsoft told me I needed to use a special one-time password to set it up on Outlook, which he provided, and we got it up and running. I put that password in a safe place per his recommendation and IT DOESN'T WORK TODAY!

I would ask that I be notified when someone response but I will need to go online and read my emails from AOL's website. BTW, I ONLY have Outlook because the company I work with requires that I just Outlook to transmit my work to them!!!!!

my aol tanked suddenly around 4-5:30 cst today as well but works on my phone. I have tried repeatedly to use the "one time" password in the "security" area of AOL to set up again and it doesn't work either.

same problem, yet again. What is wrong with 365? I don't have this problem with any other devices or systems but it happens repeatedly with 365.

I have the same/similar issue. It was working with the generated 3rd party password until then.

So I removed the account and then tried to add it back. There is no longer an AOL option for type of account to add, but I expected the IMAP account would do it. Instead, the IMAP account immediately tries to log in to a Yahoo account (I have a Yahoo account and an AOL account - the AOL account was originally a Verizon account converted back in 2015 but retaining the @verizon.net structure). As Yahoo and AOL are the same company for mail purposes, I think partially it's an AOL/Yahoo issue and partially an Outlook issue.

No solution occurs to me yet. Have tried adding the Yahoo account and that works by providing the password, but of course doesn't have any of the other emails (it was basically an account to provide for junk purposes). Yahoo won't allow me to log in to the AOL account (the @verizon.net one) and is not linked to it for recovery purposes.

Outlook used to have an option to manually configure an account. I'll try and figure out how to access it without triggering the Yahoo dialogue but first attempts were not successful.

And yes this is Microsoft 365...

I solved my issue by creating a new password for the third-party connection login.

Reboot.

Re-open outlook.

Something got corrupted or expired or changed in AOL I think.

But it could have been in some Microsoft update too.

Either way, all is back to the normal state of confusion.

Hopefully you've already resolved this issue?

If not, all you need to do is generate a new app password in your AOL Account at aol.com...sign in, then go to your account in the top right corner and choose "Account Info". You'll find "Generate and manage app passwords" under the "Security" tab.

It is not uncommon to sometimes need to generate a new password for an app. As annoying as it may seem, it's actually a better security measure than using the same password for all apps you set up with AOL.

So, if you use your email with your phone's app, Microsoft 365, Outlook, etc. each will have their own password that you generate at aol.com.
